Senese's Barrel Of Laughs

On Jan 30th, our cousin Dave invited me out to a comedy club. Senese’s Barrel of Laughs in Oak Lawn was the place and boy o’ boy did we have a good time. The MC, Bill Brady, was equally as funny as the 3 comedians presented. They were all funny but the last man…with his spot on impressions…was the best. I wish I remembered his name…perhaps Dave will read this and comment. It was good to see Dave and Rick. Surprisingly, Uncle Rich showed up before the show to wish his son Dave a Happy Birthday. It was such a pleasent surprise to see him. A great top off a long day for me.

WORKING STIFFS

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,
All play and no work makes Jack a mere toy.
---Irish novelist Maria Edgeworth

I am fortunate to have a job I like. For most I presume it may not be the case. But, I’m a lunch-bucket kind of guy. Bluecoller is all I’ve ever worked. There have been times I have had opportunities to work a white-collar job (Not saying there is a problem with that), but it’s just not my cup of tea. I relate to the Tim Taylor character on the old Home Improvement TV show. Maybe not as extreme as him but close. TOOLS…the more the merrier. Here are some examples of family members and their occupations:

1913 Chicago - Grandpa Charles Michielsen (my namesake) and his dad Louis in South Michigan Tavern appropriately called: Michielsen & Son. (man to right is Emil-half bro)

Abt. 1960 Chicago - Grandpa Walter Doemling (my middle name namesake) Realtor

2009 Chicago - Here I am at work this afternoon. I'm in a manhole (what I call a sewer to my grandson Caleb). I just started at this position in Aug 2008. I've been here 20 years this May. I'm a cable splicer. This winter has been brutal...but I love working outside.
